SPN AU Meme: Dean proposes… or something.
You wish to be in a long-term committed relationship, which is redundant as we’ve known one another for ten years.
Uh… yeah. Look. I don’t know what I’m doing here.
I believe the traditional custom is to get on one knee.
Right. Um, this good?
It looks suitable, though slightly uncomfortable. If you like, I could-
Cas, just shut up for a second, alright? We’ve been together for, what, five years now and’ve known each other for ten-
As I just stated.
-and I’m damn positive no one else in the world is gonna put up with me for as long and as good as you have. Along with Sam, you’re the best thing that’s happened to me and for some reason you’re still here. I mean, what the hell am I supposed to say? We survived a hell of a lot of over the years together so being married to me can’t be any worse than an apocalypse and you exploding all over the place, right? We’ve saved each other’s asses so many times I can’t freakin’ remember them all and now it’s weird when you’re not here when I go to sleep… and… So, I wanna marry you and get everyone else off my back about making you an “honest man” and I… love you. Probably a lot more than is healthy so just take the ring, I know it’s stupid and not really our thing, but maybe we can try the whole “family” thing one day or we’ll keep hunting… and I need to stand up. My knees aren’t what they used to be.
They didn’t seem to be problematic this morning when you were on them and my-

Dean Winchester is the boy who gave everything and still felt it wasn’t enough. He does everything for the people he loves and unless someone STOPS him, he’ll keep giving until there’s nothing left of him. Dean will put them up on a pedestal, he’ll become…

You never thought you’d see Dean hurt so bad by someone who wasn’t family — that is, blood, John or Sam, guys who drew the short straw and were Dean’s without question — but that was before the world ended and didn’t.
(Should’ve known all those things you used to say — pigs would fly, snowballs in hell, and the world would end before Dean Winchester chases dick — would come back to bite you.)
You thought at the time that maybe that’s the way Heaven did things: send agents with pushy little attitudes and no regard for personal space. You didn’t know Castiel would be different, that somehow he’d worm his way so deep inside Dean’s skin and Dean’s heart that Dean looks the way he does now: surrounded by a holy fire he drew with such attention and such hostility (Bobby wanted to offer him reprieve from the confrontation, but that was ridiculous; of course, Dean would want to be there, to either gloat about being right about the idjit angel or, if nothing else, because it’s Castiel and headbutting and heartache and if there’s anything Dean drawn towards like a moth, it’s that), surrounded by light, but like something had gone out within him.
(You never thought you’d see Dean hurt so bad — as badly — again by someone who wasn’t family, but then Castiel walks into a lake and doesn’t come up, and yes, you could.)
“I am not being ridiculous,” said Lupin steadily. “Tonks deserves somebody young and whole.”
“But she wants you,” said Mr. Weasley, with a small smile. “And after all, Remus, young and whole men do not necessarily remain so.”
