apparently - and I say this because I, too, hadn’t fully understood that - he actually meant THREE YEAR PLAN
yes, the C plot was left hanging
there was no resolution of it in the end
because it WASN’T the end
many elements of the season didn’t have closure
because they WERE NOT SUPPOSED to come to full circle within the season
as I get it now, this was PART ONE OF THREE of a super-season
this has been a PSA
I’m with bakasara on this one. And it didn’t fully hit me until this morning. Carver took a big risk here. I can’t even begin to say how important this is, considering he didn’t have 3 seasons guaranteed, only one… until half way through season 8. TBH, last night I felt the same way I did when I saw the first movie in the LOTR trilogy. I very much got the sense that I had only seen 1/3 of what will later become a full movie experience. I have many things to say about this and will be posting later tonight once I do a rewatch and take care of some things.
Yeah, the last time I can think of a show banking their storylines that hard on getting a next season was Farscape (which ended getting canceled after they filmed the ending for the season & had to make do with a rushed miniseries much later; so it’s a good thing SPN got their S9!).

Cas got cruelly tortured. He ended up bloody in front of the Impala like something out of my wildest h/c dreams!
But he was a fucking independent BAMF about it all!
He was captured and tortured by no less that the (apparent) acting leader of Heaven AND the King of Hell. But did he need Dean to be his knight in armour and rescue him? No he did NOT.
He enacted his own escape plan, using his own skills and ingenuity and strength (not to mention the smart, outside the box thinking with the Biggersons that allowed him to evade capture for so long in the first place).
He SAVED HIMSELF.
And then, because he is also smart and self-aware enough to know his limits, he did not hesitate to go and ask for help from his friends when he needed it.
But not in a weak, shameful, apologetic way. No. In a confident, self-assured, ‘a little help here, please?!’ kind of way.
Cas came into his own in this episode.
And it was a joy to see :)

For four years Dean has fought angels, demons, leviathan, and God knows what else alongside Castiel. Dean knows what Cas looks like when he goes for the kill shot, and what he looks like when he moves to heal.
Two fingers: healing. A symbol of safety, of comfort, of relief.
The open palm: simple. Death.
It’s not that Castiel isn’t himself. It’s not the fact that someone named ‘Naomi’ is the direct cause of Castiel’s pain and confliction. That’s not what terrifies Dean the most. Beaten, bruised, bleeding, he doesn’t see two fingers. He sees an open palm.
He expects death, but it doesn’t come. His hand slides off of Castiel’s sleeve, heavy. Relieved.
Now, hopefully, the open palm means something a little bit different.
#kids are allowed to be selfish #in order to create their own healthy personality #they are allowed to demand anything you want and don’t want to give #but dean is no parent #he isn’t the mother that is supposed to be selfless and giving #he is a child himself sam’s brother #under normal circumstances you can’t expect from dean to give into sams begging #yet he does exactly what you expect from a mother #giving up giving in #he did it since he was more or less four year old #to give sam anything that resembles a normal life for him to grow up and become the adult he now his #dean had to neglect his own childhood #he never grew up to be healthy #he was john’s caretaker in a really disturbing way #he was sam’s sort of parent #he is a soldier #he is tortured and traumatized and made into a tool more than one time #he is a human shaped mess of trauma and guilt #a hero a brother a friend a saviour a protector a caretaker #but you know never just dean #because ‘dean’ little precious dean burned alongside his mother on a ceiling all those years ago (via godkillinghimself)
I feel in love with dimpleforyourthoughts’s drabble inspired by the latest episode. If you haven’t read it, please, do, it’s Sam praying to Cas’ in the batcave.
In the fic, Sam is praying at his bed but as this drabble as already been adapted into a comic by Momijigari, I didn’t see the point of drawing exactly the same scene. So, same dialogs, same context, slightly different setting. :)
